With Made in Africa by ARISE Magazine just days away from dazzling New York Fashion Week (NYFW), it's time to introduce you to the seven African designers who'll be showcasing their work at the landmark event.

Fourth in our series of interviews is Malcolm Klûk, one half of South African label KLûK CGDT - the other half being Christiaan Gabriel Du Toit. Klûk gives us an exclusive preview of what to expect from KLûK CGDT's contribution to the ARISE Spring 2012 Designer Collective - namely romance!

What do you think will define S/S 2012 for you?

For us it is a combination of desaturated colour with bright accents, we love the pretty romantic floral feeling with a harder edge.

What can we expect from your collection?

We wanted to show that Africa is more than curio. More than leopard. We have done a romantic collection using the colours we see around us and using very traditional fabric.

Can you give us a progress report on your collection?

Everything is coming together, but nothing seems to be finished. There have been some exciting developments with accessories and jewellery.

What three words describe how you feel as NYFW approaches?

Inspired, overwhelmed, excited.

What essentials are you packing that you couldn't do without at NYFW?

My assistant!

Meet the other six Made in Africa designers: Asibelua, Bunmi Koko, Jewel By LisaLanre Da Silva Ajayi, Pierre-Antoine Vettorello and Tsemaye Binitie.
